On badasses and badassness:

Pegg or no Pegg, this cast is a long way from bad ass. Having not read the script I can only assume from the casting that we will not be blessed with a badass movie. Can anyone who has read the script please (without spoilers) give a BQ (Badassness Quotient) to the potential movie.

I just want to adjust my expectations. No doubt the marketing will play up the action, but I get the feeling that that isn't what we are in for. I assumed that Inglorious Bastards was going to be a hardcore men-on-a-mission juggernaut. If it isn't i'd rather know now. I'm sure it may still prove to be an amazing film, just not an action film. Ta.

It is not an action film.

It is a Tarantino film with all that entails. There is some definate badassery though. Not really a hardcore men-on-a-mission juggernaut though.

TELF, the script is not what was rumored all those years at all. The Inglorious Bastards part is not even the main storyline and there is much more scenes of people talking about how badass the 'basterds' are, than there are scenes of basassery... It is potentially an interesting film, but as written is not the Dirty Dozen updated by any stretch of the imagination...
Most of the story we have heard about previously...

Is what ended up as the second script. It is not the film that QT is splitting in two. It was the script. The one that is out now is only the first part. Although, who knows if he will ever actually make the second one.

Now There is Badass-ery! Made by real two fisted drinking, chain smoking, WW2 Vetran, NFL rushing, Womanizing Hollywood renegades...it plays well because these guys were badass. Somehow..Ya just don't get that, "I really could kick your ass", vibe from Pitt like ya did from a guy like Lee Marvin...throw QT into the mix and about the only thing menacing is the thought of yet more Foot Fetish scenes and interminable rambling.

This is absolutely, conclusively NOT a badass movie. This is like Cinema Paradiso with some random subplot about mercenaries. Most of the shit that goes down in the script revolves around a theater and a young girl who works in the projection booth. Its actually a great read, and I think the movie could be really great. I'm glad Pegg isn't doing it frankly because I didn't think he was right for that part. No offense to Simon of course. Spaced rules.

For a minute there I thought that Tom Selleck was going to be in INGLORIOUS BASTARDS... fighting nazi's with a hawaiian shirt, a bristling 'tache, and a pair of oversized sunglasses. All Tarantino would then need to do is sign up Higgins to play his loyal butler/sidekick and you got a movie that writes itself.

There is no badass to be found. At all. Its cute though. Sort of funny. I keep using the same description, but its apt; Poor mans Black Book. But Black Book was pretty good, so its still...Okay. Except for Kinski, the cast is shaping up pretty shit though. Although I'm guessing major changes are in play anyway, since the wanted cast doesn't gel with the script at all.

A: "conflict? What conflict?"

100 million dollars. I can't believe how amateurish the framing was. And god, the editing. There were at least a dozen jumpy edits. It was like a shitty film school short. And even if it were made competently, it would still be a movie about RAPE.

I found it pretty funny in theatres. But then I buy the DVD and watch it again and I was dumbfounded at how shit it was. 2 fucking lame kids just saying "fucking pussy, fucking blowjob, yeah lets get drunk fuck yeah". And the side story with that McLovin and the cops was even worse. Holy shit, what a piece of crap. Judd Apatow is the future death of comedy people, you will all see.

I used to hate him but he's getting more talented with age (or maybe he's just picking better movies now). Oh and why equate the word "Homo" as an insult anyways? Has our culture not advanced yet? (/rhetorical question) And since Brad Pitt is finally coming in some great movies (Benjamin Button, Babel- not necessarily great but his performance was the best in it, Burn After Reading, Jesse James etc.) he should drop this fucking lame QT shit.
How can anybody say theres NO badassery in this movie?
by Mystery Roach
Aug 18th, 2008
07:12:54 PM
Yes the movie spends more time with Shosanna than the Bastards (I think Shosanna is actually as badass as any of the Bastards but I digress). Yes it is supposed to be ironic and humorous that a bunch of geeky Jewish kids are terrorizing Nazis, and no it is not the men-on-a-mission balls-out action movie that people have been expecting, but there are at least a few moments that I found to be badass to a pretty high degree. Scalping Nazis, Beating them to death with baseball bats, and carving swastikas in their forheads is all pretty badass as far as I'm concerned, not to mention the ending which I won't reveal even though most of you probably already know by now.

Pegg has been good in 2 movies and all of a sudden he is a genius for not being able to be in one of the most aniticipated movies in years? Pitt jumps at the chance and now because Simon Pegg can't/doesn't want to do it is going to sway him to jump ship? Over a third of the cast isn't announced and all of a sudden the movie will flop. Wow. Sure Death Proof was questionable, but Kill Bill was amazing. And based on Pulp and its influence on all things cinema the man gets nothing but respect.
