First Real Film Shot Of GREEN GOBLIN and a Great SPIDER-MAN Shot To Boot!!!

Hey folks, Harry here... Peter Parker, who has been keeping an eye on the SPIDER-MAN movie for us, has recently sent AICN some wonderful shots that I haven't seen anywhere else (though I may be wrong). The first is a nice shot of Spidey, the second seems to be the first publicity shot I've seen of the GREEN GOBLIN. I don't think the lighting is going to be like that in the film... but still it's the first non-guy in a stand shot of the Green Goblin that I've seen, and gives us a bit of an idea what he's going to look like in this thing. Here ya are, and ain't that cool?

What the heck is Jet Jaguar doing in this film?

    by Hung-Wei Lo

But that Spidey pic is pretty cool. I'm still bummed that they took the WTC out of the teaser and films. If there will be anything that will get a reaction from the people next summer, seeing those two beauts up and displaying all their glory will have people cheering during the movie. I guarantee it!

Aren't Spidey's eyes suppose to be silver?

    by MasonsLotion

cos they're white here. Great pic though. Green Goblin looks mean as hell. I've got high expectations on this one. Hope the CGI doesn't look like it did in the trailer.

Haven't posted or been able to check up on this site in awhile so I must ask, "Why does the Green Goblin look like that?" I'd rather the purple hat than the B-movie android look. Jet Jaguar indeed. The Green Goblin will be helping Godzilla do drop kicks in your multiplex next year! Beware.... slack, Mr. Sartre

it's looks like spidey and gg went to take some glam shots at one of those mall photo stores. and spidey's eyes look so lame, i can't they're acutally using it. they should've gone for a larsen or mcfarlane look. it's not that big of an improvement over the spiderman at the marvel restaurant. and i hate kirsten dunst. and hate her even more as mj. this movie will suck.

these shots do not bode well for the movie. g.g looks like something from the first season of mighty morphin power ranger. and i ask myself why i should know that, or admit it? anyways, just another disappointment in a world of disappointments. i do look forward to training day, please be good. and LOTR. but spiderman has a "could suck" air about it, and that air is thickening. stop hyping it, since if it does suck, everyone who hyped will look foolish. but that's just my opinion. didn't really like "x men" either. so i'm the loser.

These are model shots! Any idiot can see that. Green Goblin needs some clothing surely?

  • I remain hopeful for this movie as a whole.... I love the S-M costume, and I think Tobey and Kirsten are well cast... I want to give Raimi the benefit of every doubt... I am even willing to bend (shudder) on that damned organic webshooter thing.... but whoever designed that Goblin costume may have been single-handedly responsible for limiting the potential of this film from ever being a GREAT super-hero movie to merely being at best a good one. And Spider-Man deserved a GREAT movie... not a good one hampered by a lame-o looking supervillain. How cool would "Superman II" have been if General Zod & Co. were wearing Power Rangers costumes? Not very I think. -SDG

    by old_toby

I've never been a fan of putting sculptured muscles on the OUTSIDE of these superhero costumes. RE: Batman, Green Goblin. If I were a superhero making a costume (I know, this is starting to sound really really childish) I don't think I would mold in a muscle pattern on my suit. No nipples either. If anything, I'd make the crotch area a little bigger, but that's it. What's the point?

    YOU ARE F&@*%

    by Miss Aura

Please say that you are kidding us, that this is a prank. Who made the goblin? Sam Raimi's 4yr old nephew? I was looking forward to this and thought that it was going to be a great film, now its turned into a joke. Why the hell did they digitally remove the WTC buildings from the film, when they should have just removed the goblin. I smell the bargain bin approaching for this mess, this will be the biggest flop of all time for over 10yr olds. For under 10yr olds it might work, next time get the TELETUBBIES in to give the intended audience which surely is under 10s what it wants. Spiderman is finished for me, this is now a KIDS film. God Bless Ang Lee who will surely know what comics are about and make the HULK into the superhero film we have been waiting for. To think this bloody guy made the EVIL DEAD and then turns the GOBLIN into BIG BAD BEETLEBORGS!!!!! I am that bloody angry, I can feel my skin turning Green. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

    So insane I love it

    by Veidt

Someone mentioned Planet of the Apes and I think that'll turn out to be a good analogy. Every picture - official and unoffical - that I saw prior to the film looked like ass. But I was blown away - by the ape make-ups, at least - when I saw the finished film. The Jet Jaguar look to the Goblin is puzzling to say the least but I'm willing to go with it. I suspect in the actual film it'll look a little snazzier. Whatever the case is, I think we can all agree that the Spider-Man costume is absolutely fantastic.

  • September 20, 2001 3:45 AM CST

And the more you look at these pics...

    by Veidt

The more it seems obvious that these are posed shots for model kits, not photos from the actual film. Might be wrong but the backgrounds and the stiffness of the figures seem to indicate so.

    by jaCKie_O

Do you think that perhaps Sam Raimi has gone for the comic-book effect with the lighting and set? They seem to look as though they've been created to give a slightly surreal effect that is more fitting for a Superhero film. It's true that the GG sucks, but his mask appears to be identical to the on-set shot posted on this very site a couple of months ago. I doubt if these are toys, as Spidey seems pretty much anatomically correct. Kingpin would have been a better baddie anyway. Roll on Spiderman II!

I just hope that cheesy GG costume doesn't detract from what could be a good movie.

Come on people, take a GOOD look at the "green goblin" and the set. The Wood looks like it's straight out of a japanese kids show. (BECAUSE IT IS!!!!) It aint real! They're hiding the Green Goblin's appearance the same way the studios are waiting to show us the CGI Scooby Doo...We probably won't even get an actual glimpse of Defoe's goblin until the second trailer comes out. They aren't going to dissapoint us with the swamp creature up there....

    by axelfoley

but shimy my grits and fry me a pepperburger, no one fucking bothered to tell me Raimi raided a GWAR yardsale to put together the Goblin suit. Come on now. I think this movie can work, but if anything, the Goblin doesn't do it for me. I sincerely hope Willem Dafoe can move his mouth. Already the Power Rangers comparisons continue flowing, and they aren't stopping if the suits keep this stuff up.

    I'm afraid it's real...

    by dropofahat

Have any of you checked the spidermanhype.com website? I have, and I am nervous. This GG photo looks frighteningly similar to a few of the photos they have posted there, at least one of which shows Willem Dafoe half out of costume! You don't see the mask in the Dafoe one, but what you can see of the body is almost identical to this mess. And there are full body shots, and a close-up of the mask (does the mouth even frickin' MOVE???)... yeesh. Well, if the Spidermanhype.com photos are real (and they MUST be), then so is this (at least as fas as design goes) and I am gravely disappointed in Mr. Raimi.

    by Gabba-UK

I respect your opinion on a lot of things Harry. But I feel that when it comes to your LotR and Spiderman coverage your objectivity goes right of the bloody window!!! So keen to get those pics out so you can cream over them and say you were first with film shots of the goblin you didn't look at them in any great detail. These are so obviously promo shots of model kits that anyone without the total glaze of Spiderman super-fandom over their eyes would straight away think "Nice kits. Think I might buy them when they come out." Look at the lighting Harry. The Backgrounds. The scale for Chist's sake!! The only other possable source of the shots is that they are in-house SFX pics of the models made so that Sam Rami could decide if that design works and could OK it to built full size as a costume. Which brings me to the Goblin shot. To say that it looks like something from the Power Rangers is, frankly, insulting to the Power Rangers!!!! I can not believe that someone with the visual flair that Rami has, OK'ed that piece of shit! Defoe can look like the most creepy S.O.B just by useing his face (i.e. Wild Heart)!! The idea that he needs a full body suit and mask to be menaceing is a nonsence! If that truely is the Green Goblin that scared the shit out of me in comics and the cartoon series as a kid, then frankly this film could possably be next years Last Action Hero up against next years Jurrasic Park. Take your pic over which film is next years JP. One of two really, a sequel and a prequel.

    by Lantrn_in_Gotham

Yeah, that GG suit blows. But what about the Spidey suit? Whats with the webs that look like they were put on with DAP?? And do we really need a spider on both the back and the front?? Isn't the spider motif obvious enough? The eyes are cool--but that's the only thing that dosent reek. And he's a spider. When's the last time you saw a blue and red spider?? Leave the patriotic colors to the Cap and Supes. Spidey should be in the black and white Alex Ross Suit.

Remember the original Batman suits? Nothing like the comics. Everyone hated them, what was with the leather? Yet it worked. And you have to admit, it beats a faithful version of the original. I say this; Raimi was right to change the uniforms. Think about it, we're talking about a guy with a green scale suit, a purple tunic, purple booties and a purple gnome's hat. In the comics he works, but on film he'd look like a tinted Smurf. Let's give Sam the benefit of the doubt and see the movie before bitching, guys.

Yes yes...it looks like complete shit. It might be fake. It might be a model. But here's my theory. It's GG's Battle Suit. Probably something built by Oscorp (I hope I got that right, I'm not a HUGE Spider-Man geek). Not something that he wears throughout the movie, or even for more than say one scene. If it indeed is the real deal, my hope is that it gets blasted to bits early on and the REAL goblin that we all know and love surfaces for the rest of the movie. It DOES take me back to my days of watching Ultraman though. -- Sean

The Goblin, though....good God, did they hire that suit by the day from Corman's "Black Scorpion". I always thought it looked bad, but decided to lay back and blame it on the lighting. Truth is, it absolutley SUCKS, and there's no getting away from that. If fact, I think that the Anti Organic Webshooter crowd should get more anxious over the Goblin's look than anything else. Whoa, whoa, whoa... let's not leap on this yet!

    by AnonymousScreams

First of all, some visitors here seem to believe that those are actual shots from the film -- they are models, people! Secondly, aren't we all the same fanboys that were shouting praise at the film's Spider-Man costume? Let's not attack the GG suit until we've seen it in action because there will most likely be a plethora of effects tied to the thing once post-production has ended. I'm not a major Spider-Man fan, but I'm willing to give Raimi a chance. Tobey Maguire was a pretty good pick for the Parker role, Willam Dafoe was an excellent choice for Norman Osborn, and J.K. Simmons has shown an on-camera personality that fits J. Jonah Jameson to a tee. I've never seen the full extent of Kirsten Dunst's ability as an actress, so I can't comment on whether or not she'd be able to carry the part of M.J. So, as a comic book fan, I'm going to put faith into Marvel Comics, and their choice for production staff. Hell, Blade and X-Men were amazing movies, so why should we immediately doubt them? Take care everyone, and I hope that none of you has suffered loses after the recent tragedy in New York.

I too have a theory. The mask you see is a "placeholder." The goblin's face will be articulated via CGI. I'd bet dollars to donuts on it. As for the costume as a whole, just wait til you see it in motion. It'll probably work better than you think, just like the X-Men costumes worked despite fans' moaning beforehand. Would you rather see a bright purple outfit, with pointed booties and, worst of all, Goblin talking in an "evil" high-pitched, impish squeal? I didn't think so. Just hold on to your jockstraps, children. Wait til we actually see the Goblin in motion.

I don't know why I am not excited about this. Tobey Maguire is a really great actor and I saw "crazy/beautiful" in the theater opening day because Kirsten Dunst is my cup of tea, and I love Sam Raimi. I really liked "X-Men" and still read comic books from time to time, but not so many super-hero books. Maybe that's it, at 31 I would rather read "Sin City" or something with a little more bite. I want to like this and hope it jars me, but honestly don't see it being great. "Tomb Raider", "Planet of the Apes", Jurassic Park 3" all examples of what was the most mediocre summer for movies that I have seen in ten years. I hope for "Spider-Man" fans that it is all they want it to be, but I think the watering down of American entertainment is just going to increase. Personally, "Jewel Raider", a porn version of "Tomb Raider" looks a lot more interesting that anything released this summer. www.jewelraider.com check it out.

Yes, it does look like the truck face in Maximum Overdrive. It was based on Green Goblin, you stupid fuck!! How you can conclude that putting the Green Goblin likeness on a completely different movie immediately proves that the Spider Man movie is going to suck defies any form of logic. But I shouldn't be surprised, all of you morons who think its cool just to be cynical and negative are forgetting one thing. It's only cool if you have something intelligent to say, otherwise you just embarass yourself. Which is the biggest proof of your stupidity. You numbnuts don't even realize how pathetic you sound. All of you think you sound intelligent, but all you do is betray your ignorance and immaturity with every misspelled word you post.

What THE HELL?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? this sucks. BIG. DOOKIE. In my opinion and many others there can be no goblin suit without the Purple cloak. It makes the frame it hides his arms and movements. AND it's just plain creepy to see some green guy in purple. he needs the cloak to seal the deal or this whole thing wil eternally suck. G.N.L.S.

I've said it in the past.Raimi is the brains behind Mantis...anyone who's seen that, should be less than surprised that spiderman is turning into a tacky load of shit! These are the* real* costumes not models, the goblin is identical to the on set pics from a few months back. It's just that they look so dreadful that fanboys brains have gone into denial! As for the planet of the Apes comments .The pics first shown were a good indication of the final thing , just way too bright. But by the time the film came out , everyone had just given up and accepted how ropey most of the costumes looked. The big gorilla guy {played by That Green mile chap} still looked more like a big spikey robot, than a gorilla.

    Hold on

    by DeadManWalkin81

Okay, every special-effects movie I have ever seen has looked horrible in production. But once it is a finished product it rules @ss! First off, that shot is of a MODEL! Film makers often use models when designing such elaborate costumes. Second off, I have it on good authority that that is one of seven possible looks for the goblin. Sony wanted to keep the look of the Goblin secret as long as possible, so the costume Dafoe wore might not even be this one. Third, the first time I saw Tobey Maguire in the Spider-Man costume he was standing around the sound stage, and it looked TERRIBLE, but look at the publicity shots that are coming out now. Fourth, having a grown man fly around New York City on a goblin glider wearing purple booties, trunks, and shroud is utterly rediculous. Remeber the X-Man movie? How absurd would Hugh Jackman, James Marsden, Fameke Jensen, and Hallie Berry looked running around in yellow spandex? The costume changes are for the better. Like in Batman. Michael Keaton would have looked like an @ss running around gotham in gray tights. Reserve judgement for the final product.

    Say it ain't so, Sam!

    by MasterShake

I've been reading Spiderman since the Green Goblin offed Gwen Stacey, still one of the best storylines in Spidey history. The Green Goblin was a scary villian because he was insane! Norman Osborne was off his rocker! You could see it in his maniacal expressions and laughter. If they use a costume like the one in the photos, you won't be able to see Dafoe's expressions and it will make the Green Goblin just another bland villain-soon-to-be-action-figure. Sam, it's not too late to change it! Don't do a dis-service to the Green Goblin and Dafoe.

    by 090909

Those Damn Hollywood DUMBASSES. I don't know what the story is about the Green Gobby suit in the film, but it just looks plain stupid!! I was hoping against hope that that was just some "test shot guy" like the Foil-covered guy in closeup fight shots of Terminator 2, but it looks like the real thing. The only reason I will see Spider MAn now is to see the lovely Kirsten Dunst as a REDHEAD. The Goblin LOOKS STUPID!! What was wrong with having a an insane guy in a skintight latex suit with a facemask that mimics the lunacy of the man underneath?? I remember seeing the sculpture of the Goblin in earlier AICN editions, and it looked great!! Why the bloody hell couldn't they stick with that??? I think XMEN was a film that was accessible to SOME fan imput, that is why it didn't upset too many die-hard fans, but the Goblin shot makes me think NO FANS were asked their opinion!! THis movie will not do well, I shall predict, and that is a real shame, because Spidey is a real fan favorite! What else are they gonna do, cut out his sense of humor entirely and give him Spider-hemmoroidds??? "Oh woe is me, Woe is my ASS!!" And another thing!! Kirsten Better be wearing Skintights of her own or THERE WILL BE TROUBLE!!!!

    The Green Guyver

    by chrisd

looks really bad. And the angularity on Spider-man eyes are annoying, but not unexpected. Look at the S on the costume in Superman: The Movie (very badly done), and the extra pointed bat in Batman. There must be some reason they make these somewhat different than the expected design. Just one more indication that the movie is not the comic. It's an unfortunate distraction.

    by abcdefz1

Over at SpiderMan Hype, they've got people posting who evidently are working on the movie, and their telling the outraged masses that they need to just hold on tight; there's a reason why he looks like this early in the film. Maybe it's similar to how they originally show Spidey in long johns as a costume; they're showing the evolution of the character. So maybe this is Osborne doing a training video or something. Maybe the explosion melds this suit to his body or something, trapping him inside. Who knows, but hang on; this is too big a misstep to not have some actual purpose.

    My own cast

    by DeadManWalkin81

First thing's first, Kirsten Dunst should have been Gwen Stacy if she was anyone at all in Spider-Man mythos. Mary Jane should have been played by Shannon Elizabeth. I mean come on, out of Kirsten Dunst and Shannon Elizabeth, who's more likely to be a model? I rest my case. So here it is, my casting list for Spider-Man: The Movie Peter Parker/Spider-Man: Toby Maguire (Hey if you're going with the yound Spidey he's as good as any. An older Spider might be better played by John Cusack or the like, but as it is...) Mary Jane Watson: Shannon Elizabeth (She's tall, she's gorgeous, and looks better with red hair dye.) Norman Osborne/The Green Goblin: Willem Dafoe (I agree with the actual cast yet again. Come on, he almost looks like the Goblin!) Harry Osborne: Ryan Phillipe (Tell me you can't see this guy taking the mantle later on.) J. Jonah Jameson: Robert Loggia (When you need a cranky, crochetty, hard-assed old man, this is your guy.) Joe "Robbie" Robertson: Delroy Lindo (He's got enough personality to go toe-to-toe with Loggia) May Parker: Vanessa Redgrave (She is a dead ringer for Peter's aunt.)

    Ugh!

    by Kid Z

Hollywood fucks up another classic character. I'm sure this look for GG was forced on Raimi by the suits. Gotta have be more "toy-friendly," ya know! Just ask Joel Schumacher. (Yeah, I know he's really a major hack who used that as an excuse for "Batman and Robin"... still, he does have a point. Actually, in my opinion, the Spidey costume sucks almost as badly. Obviously made by a designer who never once in his life, opened a comic book and who just used a couple of Spidey posters and photos of Spidey in the "Electric Company" as reference. The suit looks clumsy and ill-conceived. Hell, my opinion is the same as the great Spidey artist John Romita Jr.: "I don't particularly care for the look of the costume in the film. My idea of what it should look like is completely different from the way it looks. It reminds me too much of the Spider-Man costume in the original series. Laughable." Right on, Johnny! By the way, give my regards to your pops! Well anyway, as bad at that is, this GG costume is worse... MUCH worse! I mean, are they gonna give hima magic flute that summons a big, robotic dinosaur with a drillbit on the end of it's tail? They may as well. Looks like 2002 will be: The Summer of Shit: Part Deaux, that is if there IS a summer of 2002 what with the current world situation. Sheesh, I can almost here Ahnoldt, Van Damme, Chuck Norris, et all right now: "Hey! This might bring back jingoistic military/revenge flick! Our careers are saved!" Spidey, though, will both suck AND swallow! Kid Z

Harry is a big fat idiot

    by BatVomit

I like cheese just as much as anyone (you can find me watching MST3K reruns every Saturday morning) and I expect Raimi's Spider-Man to have some level of cheese, but this Green Goblin costume is just plain horrible. It seriously does look like something from the Power Rangers. This Green Goblin costume is is the worst abomination since the giant iguana version of the american Godzilla movie from a few years back. If this is indeed the costume, Spider-Man is going to be a shameful disgrace that people will laugh at and make fun of for years to come. It's not surprising that Harry would like the Green Goblin costume. After all, Harry is the guy who liked Jurassic Park 3, The Mummy Returns, and Jeepers Creepers. Even my little sister made fun of Jeepers Creepers. Anyone who comes to this site for an extended period of time learns to come here for the rumors/news, trailers, and pictures and take all of Harry's opinions and reviews with a grain of salt because he has proven time and time again to be a big fat idiot. Having said all that, I am wondering if this Green Goblin costume isn't either a sick cruel hoax to play a joke on us fan boy geeks or if it's like a battle suit that Osborne wears early on in the movie. Either way the costume we've been seeing is beyond stupid. It's not that we are in denial about the costume being the film version of the Green Goblin, it's just that most of us can't believe that Raimi would choose such an utterly and completely STUPID costume. None of us expected the Green Goblin costume to have the purple pointy shoes, but even that would be preferable to the costume we've been seeing. It also just does not make sense that they would bother to cast an actor with features like Willem DaFoe and then cover his face with a mask. DaFoe with some scaly green make up and a dark purple costume would be much better than a lame power rangers rip off.

  • September 20, 2001 6:29 PM CST

I'm as open minded as they come but this really is bothering me.

    by Rated-R

Instead of calling myself Rated-R I really should have called myself OpenMinded. I have so much tolerance when it comes to seeing publicity pictures and judging them before seeing the actual movie, but this not good. When I first saw the X-men uniforms I must admit that I was a tiny bit dissapointed but.... I reserved my judgement because even with those negatives I still saw that the movie had great potential and it did. But this Green Goblin picture is just to horrible, I'm sorry. I was on the Downey set and got to see the actual GG costume in person and I can tell you that is definatley it, It's the real deal folks. I'm hoping MichealSean is correct and this being an early version of the GG battlesuit created by Oscorp and maybe the final version of it will be shown later in the movie. The producers are probably keeping the final version of the GG suit in secret, you never know. I heard a small rumor way back about the possibility of some kind of hooded cloak being used so you never know. Maybe he will sport the cloak without the mask and a really creepy make-up job for his face towards the end. Sam Raimi is good when it comes to creepy and monstrous looking make-up jobs, just look at his Evil Dead trilogy and the Xena/Hurcules series. I hope Mr. Raimi has Defoe show his actual face as the GG and not hide it behind a mask for the whole movie because it would be a waste of a great actor. Here's hoping Sam Raimi is smarter than that GG design and like I said is just some kind of early battle suit and not the final one. But I will not completly condem this movie just because of the GG and I will again reserve my judgment until I see the actual movie.

    Alternate Universe Casting

    by jollydwarf

I was visiting an alternate universe yesterday, and you should've seen those Green Goblin/Wayne Knight photos! Oh, and Jason Biggs as Spidey...I don't need to tell you about his big mishap with the web fluid, do I? Then there was the whole Venom/Beetlejuice(from Stern) subplot, and Ms. Dunst was still there, but she was a coke-fiend whore/aspiring actress who gobbles Spidey's "peter" and distracts him while the burglar (Andy Dick) kills his Uncle Ben (William Shatner in an all-time bit of classic Kirk overacting). Strangely, you could spot Bruce Campbell walking through every scene for no good reason. Did I mention Peter Parker's very different boss J. Jenna Jameson? And Weezer's latest album in this alternate reality? "Weezer", a.k.a. "The Mauve Album". Wow, a little twist here and there, and things can be sooooo different. P.S. To be fair, the Brendan Frasier as Wolverine thing didn't go over much better than the David Hyde Pierce as Jay from the "View Askew" films did. P.P.S. The Gary Coleman/Episode I Anakin casting is still being hotly debated, to this day.

    by DarthLebowski

Guys please look at tha green goblin suit and ask yourself... is that green goblin? I think just about every kid read spiderman comics growing up. I think that most people know who the green goblin actually is. Are they trying to be more hip with those who don't know spiderman? Um i think most of the people going to this movie will be spiderman fans or people who have read some of his books. Goin with a cyber-metallic suit is the dumbest idea most studios can choose. It's like since Batman wore armor and was a successful movie... all freakin superheroes/villains gotta wear some crappy cyber muscle suit. There was a picture of a green goblin model that that i sawon this site one time and it said was going to be what goblin was going to look like. That was cool as hell. I think some of your remember it. This thing... too green... too metal... too freakin muscular. Muscles do not equal cool, sorry hollywood you got it wrong, sorry Raimi for listening to hollywood, you got it wrong too. I was sooo looking forward to seeing this movie and now am about lukewarm to the idea of seeing it all. I can't believe a picture of something can change my outlook on a movie so much... but it has, I DON'T want to see this movie unless this green goblin idea is thrown out the window... whatever pic i saw just now was not green goblin. Not at all in any kind of form. And nothing they do with effects will make me believe that this cyber musclebound greener than green goblin is actually the green goblin. Hollywood will never learn as long as they keep going back to those spreadsheets and forecasts...

Spidey Pic Is Cool, But GG Is Pure Sh%t

    by The Founder

I'm sorry, but that Gg costume is horriable. I don't think any amount of lighting is going to make it look good. Yeah the X-men costumes looked crappy at first, but us fans had the current costumes from the comics in our minds, and that's why we said they sucked, but they turned out to be the actually costumes for the movie, and they worked, but like my sister said when I showed her the X-men costumes, she said there wasn't anything wrong with them in her opinion. I think us fans are more critical when it comes to our favorite heroes, but that GG suit is a mess, and you can all dream that's it's going to change, but come May 3rd that's what's going to be on the big screen. I can't believe Rami would get behind that design, and not to mention Marvel. I'm not going to comdemn the movie, because it may be pretty good, but that GG costume will always be sh*t.

I am a big x-men fan, I saw the costumes, I had doubts, BUT I had faith in the director and cast and waited to see the movie, and it was the best comic movie ever, next to batman (fuck superman, that shit was way too queer). On Spiderman, I have the basic knowledge but am not a huge fan. "The webbing is organic but he wears web shooters..." SO FUCKING WHAT! Doesn't that get the same point across? It isn't accurate but it COULD work. And the Goblin suit, if it's real, looks kinda retarded, but what if it's not finished...It could just be armor or something and the clothe and hat and shit could also be on there later...Willem is an awesome actor and could rock as Goblin... time for a remake of INFRAMAN!

    by Mibrilane

actually, come to think of it, a remake of INFRAMAN might actually be kinda good, in a "good Lord it is the most hideously awful exposed celluloid i have ever witnessed, other than BIKERS VS. THE UNDEAD and possibly NATAS: THE REFLECTION, but i digress it is truly staggeringly bad in both concept and execution" sort of way. SPIDERMAN now is a must-see in my book, not for any quality it is exuding (or not exuding, as the case seems to be with these promo pics) but to see how truly mind-numbingly awful it might actually be. it might live up to the GODZILLA benchmark of movies that don't live up to their hype. i think THE MUMMY RETURNS gave good ole GODZOOKIE a run for its money, but SPIDEYBOY looks like it might top even that. oh well. at least GEORGE LUCAS ATTACKS! comes out at the same time...

Cant tell a lie. I am quite disspointed with this. As much as I hate to admit it, it does look like a power ranger. I am hoping that when the film is relased that the costume will work as the close-ups of he helmit look quite good. Another disaster is the removing of the trailer, poster and all appearences by the Trade Centre in the film. I understand the trailer being removed, but I hope it appears on the DVD. Removing all appearences of the towers is pointless. In about two years they will have rebuilt it as good as new, and when people come to watch the film in years to come they will say: where did the towers go? Instead I think a message should be put after the titles that goes along these lines: To the many innocent victims of the Trade Centre bombings, may you rest in peace, never be forgotern, and may the true heroes of this world be acknowledged for the great work they do. I think thbat would be a better respect. Going as far as to removing all the posters and burning them I think is going one step too far. But, my hopes of seeing that trailer on the big screen and buying that poster are now gone (but for good reason), and I find this quite depressing. Depressing that it seems many good people were killed, world war three is about to start and my most antispated film ever is going down the drain. All this in one month! What a messed up world. I have hope in Sam Raimi, Bush and hope in God. To see my review section go to: www.thakksy.co.uk

    What the hell?

    by Mac an Cheanna

That Green Goblin suit is the biggest piece of shit I've ever seen! I never read the Spiderman comics but I remember that in the cartoon the Green Goblin was a green-skinned crazy guy with a pointy purple hat that flew around on a rocket sled throwing pumpkins at Spiderman. The new "goblin" seems to have lock-jaw so it can't close its mouth, and is wearing one of Batman's leftover suits spray-painted green. Also what is the point of the carefully sculpted gay-ass six-pack chest shape on the suit? Couldn't they have left the Green Goblin as he was instead of reinventing him into a rigid mannequin? Also the Goblin's arms look like they will twirl around punching the air so that if any part of Spiderman should occupy that air, then its his own fault...

Will some of yous shut the fuck up?

    by axelfoley

Yes, the Goblin looks terrible, but don't rank Spidey in that same category. He looks really....uh, like Spidey. Hasn't that been what some of you people have wanted when there were talks of changing Spidey's color scheme? I'm sure there's more up the sleeves for Goblin's look, and while it does look like Absolut shite, take pennance in the fact that they could be adding some things like a cloak or bag. Reports say that during the course of the film, Goblin potentially adds things to his costume, so maybe what we're seeing is the first sign of it, and it still looks bad, but.....

    costumes

    by dancer

I agree that the Green Goblin's costume looks terrible, like a villian from the mighty morphin power rangers....I thought they should have went with a more organic look so we could see the expressions on William DaFoe's face--like the Joker. They could have put scales on his face and used makeup to create a better effect and more realistic villian. I'm not crazy about Spidey's costume either. Although it is very well designed, it still looks very "comic bookish". Raimi should have followed the lead of Tim Burton who did an excellent job in changing the comic book "Batman look (Blue/Gray) to the more realistic "Dark Knight (Black)" look in the movie. Spidey's costume should have been a darker red/bungundy and black with a silver trim....Giving him a more modern and exciting look.

    by anakinvader

I wanted to see this movie so bad and the picture of the Goblin just destroyed any hope in my mind that this film will be any good. For God's sake he looks like the green brother of Jet Jaguar from the Godzilla movie. WHAT HAPPENED TO ALEX ROSS'S ideas and sketches??????

    by Spy Derman

I want this film to R-O-C-K my world. I really do. But when I look at the above pic of the Green Manalishi I can't help but see Raimi's trademark hi-grade college film contest entry-style slapstick horror picture show. Let's all say a little prayer that my fears won't become reality.

    A word on Alex Ross...

    by Sausage Mahoney

I loved his designs for Spider-Man. They were new and different but they still don't hold a candle to the single greatest action hero costume ever and I'm glad they went with tradition. However, on Green Goblin, think about it, he's wearing a cheap rubber mask. It's not organic in any way, it's a mask to quickly get on and off. But, imagine Spider-Man laying his fist into the Green Goblin's rubbery head. The mask would cave in a little and look like shit and since he's not deformed and has to appear later in the movie, they went with a more robotic approach. A toupher, more durable mask so that he can take a hit without looking as funny as his mask caving in on his face. Now, since the most of you have cried "bloody murder" in response to the liberties taken with the Goblin's costume, doesn't it strike you as a bit hypocritical to bitch and say you want a deformed Goblin as opposed to the actual cheap rubber mask Goblin. Whoever brought up Planet of the Apes was dead on. The make up and costumes worked great within the context of the movie but every picture before the movie came out looked like shit. Don't count this movie out yet!

The GG costume actually, now this is my opinion looks pretty good except for the head. The head is just really gay...it looks like a fish or something, maybe a parrana, well I dunno but all I know is the head is gay. I still think the body is pretty good looking, and they should add a cloak to him or something, but the body armor type stuff looks pretty cool.

    by Seven7Seven

Oh my dear, heavenly Lord... I didn't previously believe that this could've POSSIBLY been the costume they're using in the movie.. but the shots from Dafoe getting into the costume laid any disbelief to rest. Sam.. WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING?! I thought you said you were a fan of the comic as a kid!? Is your memory THAT clogged w/ bong resin that the only vision for the GREEN GOBLIN that enters your mind is that piece of garbage?? Yes, that's right: GARBAGE. That suit is a fucking joke, flat-out. How you could look at the draw-up of that thing & actually think - for a split second - "Hey, that's pretty cool" is unFATHOMABLE. Much less make it a reality. Everything else I've seen about this movie is mind-blowingly rad. Why must you muck it up with such a disgraceful departure as that GG costume? Please change this before the movie hits theatres. For the love of God.

    Millionaire industrialist....

    by happyhippy

.. goes of his trolley and decides to become a bad guy. What sort of costume do you think he's going to wear? Silk monogramed PJ's? the guy has no powers, it all comes from his suit and equipment, like a bad iron man, which, funnily enuff is what this suit could be.As for him wearin a mask, who seriously thinks that, on spotting a chance for a bit of quick villany, he's going to spend time carefully applying make up? of course he aint, he'll design a suit that he can put on with a mask to hide his face, so people dont go 'gosh, that green goblin fella dont half look like Norman Osbourne with green make up on', especially as Willem Defoe does look so distinctive. that was always the weakest thing about superman, that a pair of glasses would hide his identity whilst he worked with the citys leading investigative reporter. get a fuckin life and dont slag it offbefore you've seen the film and how it fits in with the story.

    by cool designer

Just to quell any further speculations. Yes these are publicity stills from the movie. Yes that is how the Goblin will look in the film. In the context of the story line the suit makes sense... trust me. I worked on the film. They could have chosen a better still for the Goblin.

    Towers no problem.

    by Trilaan

Okay, it's time to finally say it. the towers were NEVER going to be in the movie. They just used them in the film's trailer to get your attention. What could have been a more obvious place for a giant web! it was cool, it was awesome, it took me by total surpriose and I was bursting in my seat as soon as I realized what was going on! The buildings were not going to be in the actual movie. We don't even know if this particular spidey plot will take place in NYC. And Sam Raimi is a great director. the only other person I'd have chosen for this would be Peter Jackson. But, of course, he's busy with LotR. As far as directors go these are two of the most unique and involved people in the business who believe in doing everything possible to not let fans down.

    by AlTaylor

Well Spiderman is latex-looking-riffic and Green Goblin looks like the "Tetsuo: The Iron Man" version of Norman Osborne's nutty alter-ego. So I'm fucking happy! We've got crazy costumes, Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell cameo (aye, cliched geek thing), some eye candy and blatant madness overall. HURRAH! Well all of you little bitches complaining may as well shut up and look forward to a CGI symbiote or Venom in the next film. Waaaaa, stupid fanboys. I'm a fucking fanboy but I'm not a whiny little bitch about this stuff. Calm the fuck down and enjoy what's gonna be a fun film. I personally think this looks like it's gonna be great. The trailer alone got me far too excited (no, not *that* excited, you cheeky scamps). Onward and so forth, this film is gonna be mad cool!

Alas, poor Spidey, we hardy knew ye...

    by Bulbasaur

A coupl things here..one, I loved the Honeycomb Hideout reference. Good call, Village Idiot! two, yes I heard the movie was being delayed after WTC because the movie fetures the NY skylie with the towers intact. But I didn't her it was being permanently shelved. Next, Spidey's costume...it does look a little like the Electric Company version in this picure, but a month ago I saw a completely different shot of it, and it didn't look like this one. Perhaps the theory that these are old stock photos is true, and they're being circulated as red herrings. Next thing, MJ...I've seen on set photos of Kirstin Dunst as MJ, and they colored her hair perfect, even included the orange and black highlights the way it's drawn in the comic. Lastly on Spidey, let's hope the phot of Cell...I mean Green Goblin...is a red herring. I will be seriously disappointed. it doeslook very Japanese in nature, so perhaps (I'm sorry, I forget the name of the person who said it) the costume is from a live-action Japanese movie. I've never seen one of Spidey myself, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

  • I mean Ringwood does the best superhero costumes ever and....aaarararararararrggggg!!!!!It's like thinking you don't need R.Lee Ermey for J.J.J. - yeah Sam you'd never have instantly won all the fan base with that move either..(man have I lost some respect...)

    by Guardian Savior

Does anybodie else agree that the trailor with the wtc in it shuld be kept in???, i have a freind who works in a cinema and she says that in the trailor (u.k version) spidey casts a web like net 2 catch a helicopter frum flying into the towers! to me that sounds very cool indeed and i think that if they showed it it woold be a kinda "what life would be like if we had a real superhero". Also i think altho the GG suit does look incredibly suckky i really dont think its the main costume, for instance in every batman film theres the batsuit, yet at some point it gets blown up or whatever at the end leaving a much better looking much stronger suit that was some kind of "prototype" i tghink we shud see the film instead of jus slating it because of a costume. contact me on cuteasabutton75@hotmail.com if u wanna talk bout it more

    Some thoughts...

    by 21schizo

I was trying to type this earlier and something freaked out so if these thoughts are posted twice, I'm sorry. Anyway, taking the Trade Center towers was a respectable thing to do. What the fans want to see in this movie or its trailers pales in comparison to the WTC tragedy. You can't look at those towers with thinking about the people who died there and if you can then you're a heartless pile of crap anyway. Speaking of crap, what is up with that Green Goblin costume? Its just terrible. It lacks imagination. Its going to make that character very impersonal and that's a shame when such a talented actor is playing him. That's like having Schwartzenagger playing Conan in a big bulky sweatsuit. I don't think that this will make the Spiderman movie suck but the "man to man" aspect of their fight will be lost. And for those thinking that this isn't THE Goblin suit; just remember when the "hype.com" site had the first two pictures of Defoe in the suit. I saved them and one is apparently of a Spider-Goblin fight scene that is maybe being choreographed. Defoe has the mask off but guess what the rest of the suit looks like? That's right! Its Spiderman versus the Ultraman back up suit! A character of that magnitude deserves a much better costume design and true fans have the right to be upset.

C'mon now, let's not write the whole movie off yet...

    by The Force

First of all, when I saw the alleged GG costume still, I also thought it was some kind of shitty power rangers' ripoff. But jumping to conclusions already about how good the finished product will be is just retarded. Unless any of you people have some kind of REAL inside scoop (movie-exec level), then there's no way anyone can say with authority. Now, if ya just wanna express your sexual frustrations through your critiques (in a very thinly veiled manner, by the way), then you are a jerkwad. Even though the GG still blows chunks, we all know Willem Dafoe is a great actor and will definitely lend his abilities well to the character. In the end, though, I know it's real easy for people to be judgemental and bash something like this--but how many of you could (or have) directed a multimillion dollar feature?

Spidey started off his career as a performer, in the wrestling wring. That suit says lame WWF to me. As for the GG suit, I just have two words to say, ALEX ROSS. Did anyone see his design for the Goblin? It would've scared the livin' shit out of anyone over the age of 25!! Right now, that suit makes me feel ashamed to be looking forward to the film. And the saddest thing of all, I'll still buy my ticket and watch it like the rest.

    Tempers Running High!

    by slipalong

Look, whenevr a movie like this is made, there is a fine line that the director has to stay on, You could never make a film like this and please everyone. If the film were to made just like the comic then it would be a complete cheese-fest and no-one would want to watch it. The whole idea behind this goblin suit makes sense, the practicality of it logical. But I still find the overall look disapointing. But what if the script had run along the same lines as the "Ultimate Spider-Man" comic book? Making the Green Goblin a kind of Jekyll/Hyde monter) or rather Hyde/more evil Hyde. Which ever way you look at it, Raimi can't make all of us happy. I read the treatment by Cameron, to me he's a god but I didn't like that either. Let's all wait and see what we get. I've sat through films I knew wouldn't be that good (every Batman film directed by Scumacher. But hey, it's Batman!) And we'll all go to watch this, no matter how bad we might think it'll be, it's worth the price of a ticket just to see Spidey web-slinging across the New York skyline!

IN THE WORST WAY. IT'S SO BAD, IT ALMOST HAS TO BE A NET JOKE OR SOMETHING. BUT I DON'T PUT ANYTHING PAST HOLLYWOOD. ALL I KNOW IS, IF THEY DO THIS TO WILLEM DAFOE, THIS WILL BE WORSE THAN THAT PIECE OF SHIT CALLED SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE, WHICH WAS ALSO A WASTE OF HIS BRILIANCE. Y'ALL GET AT ME!!!

I was looking forward to this movie so much, but ever new piece of info or picture I see just makes me cringe even more than the last. This movie will be ass! I know that Raimi did Evil Dead (which rocked the world) but he's also made many other movies that where just plain stinking piles of shit! People keep saying that the X-men costumes looked terrible before the realese, but then X-men sucked too! Don't get me wrong as a movie it was good, but as the X-men it was just plain wrong. The only hope there is for comic book movies is Ang Lee's- HULK. This Goblin costume is the greatest injustice ever! Damn you Raimi! Damn you to hell!

Green goblins mask is perfect. His eyes are all buggy, ears are pointy , and he has a manical laugh fixed on his face. His mask Is just that, a mask. His mouth and eyes do not move, and his facial features are not expressed, just like in the comics. The body suit does look a little cheesy, but with the perfect camera fx, it won't look that bad. I'll wait till the movie comes out to make my final judgement.

WHY SUCH MEAN THINGS TO SAY

    by craigslofton

Ill reserve my opinion on the GG costume till the movie comes out. it may not be that bad William Dafoe or John Malkovich would be perfect for the role of GG so im glad they@ least got william. I like Kirsten Dunst but i think they should have got an unknown someone taller a natural red-head to play MJ. Till then ill reserve my comments till after the movie even though the appearance of the GG costume looks bad on 1st glance @ least they got a good actor to make up for it.

    green goblin costume

The Green Goblin's costume sucks. The real amazing thing is that the costume designer says he almost designed Spiderman's costume as a Power Ranger helmet (see Sony Spiderman website). Sort of tells you where his influence and makes you wonder why Hollywood refuses to hire comic book industry professionals as consultants on movies based on comic book properties. No doubt Spiderman will still be a blockbuster movie. This, however, is because of the outstanding work Marvel Comics has done over the past forty years and not the %#$%-up job the Hollywood did to the Green Goblin.
